FAQ
How much does it cost?
Studio registration is yearly and covers the cost of materials, consumables, and recitals. Tuition varies by teacher, but is comparable to beginning harp and piano lessons. Tuition is based on a 10-week semester. Both registration and tuition secure your place in class.
What ages can participate in Peppermint Harp?
Peppermint Harps was designed for children between the ages of 8-12 years old.
What if my child is too young or old?
Both Jill and Justine teach private lessons. For younger children, we highly recommend starting your child in Let’s Play Music lessons letsplaymusicsite.com, then pursuing Peppermint Harp upon graduation from that program. For older teens and adults, if we have a committed class of 4, then we would love to teach an older class!
What temperament does my child need to do harp?
Peppermint harps was written to engage every learning style, and have fun! However, since we are working with highly specialized, expensive instruments, your child needs to have a high level of personal bodily control to participate. We highly encourage you to contact your prospective teacher to schedule a meeting with you and your child.
When will classes meet?
Classes meet weekly for 60 min sessions at your teacher’s studio. Classes begin and end promptly. There are 3 semesters, of 10 weeks each, during the school year. There is an extra 2-week Christmas session each year, and an optional 4-week summer session in June.
How long is my commitment?
Your commitment is made on a yearly basis. Peppermint Harps is a 4-year curriculum. After 2 years your child will have a solid foundation in harp technique, fun repertoire, and the basics of music theory. Years 3 and 4 will deepen repertoire, music theory, improvising and composing, and ensemble playing.
I don't have a harp, can my child still participate?
Harps are available to rent. Your child needs to have a harp, and a safe place for their harp at home. Years 1 and 2 require a 26-string harp, comparable to the harpsicle harps. For years 3 and 4 we recommend renting or purchasing a full-size 34-38 string lever harp, or pedal harp.
